Let’s start off with the basics…
What’s your penname?
SushilovesWhitlock
Where do you post most often?
Twitter – I'm @sushibrat there
What’s your favorite pairing? Favorite genre?
Jasper and Bella is my fave pairing. As far as genre, I don't have one specific genre that I stick with, I do like stories with substance. I don't always read AH stories either.
Is there a pairing or genre that you absolutely cannot stand?
I am usually not an Edward fan because he has elements that are very similar to the Ex. I wouldn't say I cannot stand AH but I don't always read them. LOL
I haven't read stories where Nessie is one of the main characters either. I just don't think I'd enjoy that.
What got you into the Twilight Fandom? It’s all the hot guys, wasn’t it? Don’t lie.
I started getting into Fanfics because of the way Breaking Dawn was written. It felt like aletdown whereas stories like LOTR and Harry Potter didn't.
As with many folks, I guess, I started with Canon stories and then realized that Jasper and Bella seemed more alike than their respective halves. That is when I discovered Jasper & Bella stories and it went from there.
Last year, I started to beta a few O/S here and there before becoming DarkNNerdy's beta.
I didn't really start writing until this year when we did a collab.
What do you find to be the most challenging part about writing yourfics?
I've been fortunate so far (knocks on wood) that I haven't had many challenges. Bound in Blood has been fun to write and I've written way more than I've posted, LOL.
One of the things I have a problem with is I find myself going back to earlier chapters (ones that haven't been posted) and tweaking them as I continue to write the later chapters.
Best review you’ve ever received? Worst?
The best reviews are ones where the reader will bring up details or something poignant that they noticed in the chapter or even a question. If it doesn't ruin a surprise or anything, I'll gladly answer it.
Worse review? I've had a couple. One left me a review telling me basically that she's quitting my story and then proceeded to go on about how certain things have occurred and that it won't make for a good story because I ruined elements of it. Yeah.... I basically replied back telling her that yes, this might not be her cup of tea and that I've written up to (at that point) chapter 21. What I thought was funny was she reviewed it and said she was quitting and then asked a bunch of questions which I neglected to answer. (evil laugh)
I have a stalker reviewer who disables her PM so I can't even begin to address my (supposed) faults in the story. My story bores her and it is a train wreck but yet she keeps reading it. She is a coward in that respect but (whispers) I think she is just secretly in love with me and watches me as I sleep but I digress.
How do you get into the zone? What’s your method for getting the creative juices flowing? Dancing around your living room in nothing but a baseball cap, weird shit like that?
As I said, this story has pretty much written itself though I'm taking more time in completing a chapter now. There is so much more detail in this story that it is taking more time than before. I guess you can almost say when I'm NOT in the zone.
I've already started with a new story and that is going slower but I'm dedicating more time to Bound in Blood at the same time as I'm nearing the end of the story (cries).
Do your friends and family in your real life know about your fanfiction alter-ego?
Not really unless they follow me on twitter. LOL
What do you look for in a good fanfic?
I like stories that cause me to think or surprise me in some way. My favorite stories are long multi-chapter ones.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
Anything you’d like to share with us? Married, single? Kids?Covert CIA agent?Alaskan crab fisherman?
Divorced nearly a year ago and I have been out here in Texas for almost a year. (shifty eyes) Sure, I am a covert secret agent (giggles). No kids currently an apartment dweller so I have no pets yet either.
Spill! What’s you guilty pleasure? I promise not to judge you, as long as it isn’t Justin Beiber.
Would coffee be considered a guilty pleasure or just a plain addiction because yeah, I am a coffeeholic.
Since moving here to Austin, I've finally got the tats I've wanted for a while but because of the damn Ex, I refrained so that would have to be my other guilty pleasure but I don't think I'll be getting more after this.
Do you have a favorite published author? Someone that actually has printed novels with a publishing house, like Stephanie Meyer.
J.K. Rowling is one of my favorites, I also have enjoyed some Wilbur Smith novels and Clive Cussler ones as well.
Favorite musical artist? Anything we should definitely check out?
Muse, The Black Keys, Jason Aldean just to name a few.
Time to spread the love…
Who do you drop everything for, including the urn with your great grandmother inside, and run to the computer when you get an update?
I just did this when NauticalMass updated Leaves of Grass. I discovered the story late into the game but yeah the last couple times, I dropped everything; even my own writing to read her stuff.
Do you have an author that you fangirl over? And do you squee? I do. Many times.
Well I am absolutely biased but I FLOVE DarkNNerdy not just because she's my wifey either. Her stories and I've read every single one except the one she has on hiatus has managed to evoke some emotion through her words. She's made me laugh and cry and get pissed as hell; the full gamut. So yeah I may not squee but I might get bouncy happy, does that count?
If you were to break someone into the Twilight Fandom, what fic would you give them to read first?
I am biased because I love Jasper & Bella stories so I'd probably recommend that they read Colliding Meteors by IdreamofEddy. That was one of the first stories I read that just WOW'd me and gave me a permanent seat on the Jasper bandwagon.
Can you suggest a fic to be recommended on the blog?
Since I mentioned it earlier, Leaves of Grass by NauticalMass is awesome.
For something a little darker, Pretty Pieces of Flesh by DarkNNerdy is dirty hot.
And now for a bit of fun…
Give a shout out to your team!
Team as in sports? I'd have to say, College football and the Hawkeyes thanks to the former inlaws for getting me hooked on Iowa football.
For my team of fan-fucking-tastic ladies, we have DarkNNerdy who is my constant sounding board and has been very encouraging with me writing. My pre-readers JaspersBella and SparklingFae have been great and then Mynxi has been awesome as beta.
Stephanie Meyer’s Bella… Strong, independent woman and a role model for all girls, or a sniveling, whiny, spineless twit? And do you that KStew makes a good Bella? Anybody you think could’ve done it better?
I personally think SM's Bella was not what you'd call a positive role model. Being a totally different age bracket than what the story was intended to be for, I saw her giving up her idea of marriage just to be with Edward to be flawed. Speaking of flaws, her Bella saw the Cullens as always being perfect which bothered me.
I probably could go on all day about that but I won't. LOL
I think visually, KStew is pretty but I don't think she makes a good Bella. I think the gal who plays Elena in The Vampire Diaries could have been a better Bella but I'm not part of the casting crew.
Ever imagine yourself in the place of a character in the fics you read? (It’s the lemons, isn’t it? Naughty naughty!)
Yeah I do put myself in Bella's place when I am writing Bound in Blood because then I could really do to my Ex what I had Bella do to some of her meals. LOL.
Let’s say that your friends and family don’t know that you write fanfiction. You’re at the office, or the family get together, and someone mentions that they’ve be reading this fanfiction online. As you listen to them recount the details of this story, you realize with growing horror that this is your story! How do you react?
The first thing I'd do is change the wallpaper on my damn phone because it is my Twitter and FanFicAvi LOL. That might be a hint. Other than that, I probably won't say anything given that my current story has dark themes and if you've seen the banner, you'll know that they are human drinkers. :-D
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to ramble LOL! It was fun.
ReplyDeleteO_O I kinda sound like a dork but I guess that is typical of me. :-P
XOXO
Love love LOVED this ... my first time here but I'm thrilled with the writer you chose. I'm up to my eyeballs, as Sushi knows, in Bound in Blood! I just love her Jasper & Bella. Anyway, just wanted to say, found you through twitter, and great interview!
